===Usage===
This template should be used to link in years that are part of video game articles that have no associated day of the year. If an exact date is known, the date (with year) should be displayed using [[WP:DATE|appropriate date formatting]]. Otherwise, the year should be linked to the wikipages of "YYYY in video gaming", where YYYY is the year.

This template takes two parameters. The first parameter is a year, and provides the following wikilink for this process
<nowiki>[[{{{1}}} in video gaming|{{{1}}}]]</nowiki>.

The second optional parameter is a string of text that will appear as the linked text in the document. This is often appropriate per [[WP:MOSNUM|Wikipedia's style guidelines]] for linking of dates to avoid "surprise" links. If this parameter is not included, the text will default to the year in the first parameter.

Example usage:
* <code><nowiki>{{Vgy|2008}}</nowiki></code> produces {{vgy|2008}} (which links to [[2008 in video gaming]]).
* <code><nowiki>{{Vgy|2008|released in 2008}}</nowiki></code> produces {{Vgy|2008|released in 2008}}.
