General information
Name: LaboratoryTestResult
Version: 1.0
Publication date: 02-10-2017
Status wikipage: final
This FHIR profile is based on version 1.2.2 of the building block LaboratoryTestResult. The latest version of this building block can be found here on the wiki.
Concept
A laboratory result describes the result of a laboratory analysis. In addition to the results of tests with a singular result, the results of more complex tests with multiple results or a ‘panel’ can also be recorded.
Purpose
Laboratory tests are done for the purpose of diagnosing and preventing disease and follow-up on the effects of treatment.
Content
The ZIB LaboratoryTestResult is mapped to three FHIR resources, namely: DiagnosticReport, Observation and Specimen. There are multiple solutions on how to implement these resources/profiles depending on the use case, hence the reason for the double mapping of ZIB concepts to FHIR elements in the profiles. Many observations have important relationships to other observations and need to be grouped together. Three structures have been defined to do this: DiagnosticReport and DiagnosticReport.result, Observation and Observation.component, and Observation and Observation.related. These profiles do not dictate which structure should be used, since this depends on a more specific use-case than any of the MedMij use-cases in scope.
More information on these structures is described in the table on the following page: http://hl7.org/fhir/observation.html#10.1.4.1
